Shopping

We have interesting independent shops in Morecambe as well as the Market.  We have still to get round all of them ourselves!  We rarely go further afield to get what we need and as we add to our discoveries, so will we add to this page so you can see just what we have on our doorstep!

Northern Relics on the Front have a drink or browse the antiques and collectables.  We love having a nosey around and would recommend it to anyone.

13 The Warehouse

This place is full of lovely bits, gifts, treasures, lush fabrics and a quiet corner for coffee and a home made cake.

If you get a chance, most weekends you can go into the Winter Gardens.  Friends of the Winter Gardens are working hard towards getting it restored and back into action.

We don’t just have shops in the central area of the town.  There is a The Cresent at Bare where there are super cafes, Art and Framing Studio independent dress and accessories shops.

Food and Drink

We like our food too and have had good experiences in McThai’s, The Palatine, The Artisan, The Honey Tree, Finnigans Bar, The Brasserie, The Curry Leaf, The Toby Carvery at the Shrimp Roundabout.  There are loads of other places we have been advised are really good too, but we have yet to get round to trying them out ourselves!

The Shell Shop is next door to The Artisan, and sells loads of lovely bits and bobs, and some beautiful jewellery.  A great place to buy gifts and trinkets - have a look at their website http://www.theshellshop.co.uk/ .

The York, The Pier, The Smugglers Rest and The Palatine will all offer you a warm welcome! There are plenty of other pubs and bars to sample, both in terms of food and drink.  Perhaps you will be able to let us know of your discoveries if you come and stay.

Walks

You can walk all the way from Hest Bank to Heysham along the promenade.  A lot of work has been put into the prom and I reckon it has paid off.  You can bob up to Hest Bank, over the level crossing and do a relatively easy walk along the shore and if you cut through Bolton-le-Sands you can pick up the canal to walk back and make it a circular walk.

Within minutes you can be parked up at various points along the canal and walk stretches which have been made very accessible.

If you head inland from Morecambe up the Lune you can walk into Lancaster, but this is a path I prefer to cycle.

Cycling

Good for cycling around here too! for lazy so-in-sos like me there is plenty of flat but don’t worry the Bowland Fells are minutes away if you like a challenge!   Of course there is the Lake District too.  Forty minutes and you can be in the heart of the Lakes.
